Gimli's secret goal was to be a Ranger. This deck lets him get ranged and boosted attack. I play this often with You Had One Job, Phil deck (which handles the bulk of questing and most defense). This frees the dwarves up for attacking.

Song of Wisdom on Gimli allows him to pick up Doughty Ranger, which allows him to pick up Keen Longbow. That, plus some early damage and then adding Heavy Strokes and Khazad Khazad usually does the job.

Oh I love the look of this. I imagine this being a lot of fun to play. Pretty sure I don't own many of the later cards, but I want to try something like this one day :) Thanks for sharing Doc!

first i ask myself, where are the rangers?

then i read the gimlitransformation

its much efford to give him ranged. with Tireless Thoroughbred it is far easier. specially if you only have 2 copies of ranger, song and bow.

making gimli a ranger does not allow you to use Coney in a Trap because you need 2 different caracters with the traits not 1 with both.

if you really want to play gimli as ranger effectively, play a The Grey Wanderer and give him Doughty Ranger as default attachement. then the ranger cards are not useless until he get that attachement.

Fun idea turning Gimli into a ranger, but I think it would be easier and possibly even more fun to make a Last Alliance deck, instead. Would obviate the need for Doughty Ranger altogether!

But in the current version, what is the need for Song of Wisdom? I don't see any role for this card, and you could drop both copies for another Doughty Ranger and Keen Longbow.

@doomguardTireless Thoroughbred will be easier; I'm playing progression with my brother and despite playing with him for the last 7 years, we've just started the Vengeance of Mordor cycle. We keep going back and replaying things; partly because we love re-trying it but also because we love the feeling on knowing there is more out there. But now that we have ALeP we may be okay!

@kjeldThe Last Alliance is a great idea for this. Song of Wisdom was to allow Gimli to be a legal target for the ranger/bow attachments.
