A Deck born out of a small Discord discussion relating to Fortress of Nurn. The Question was how good you can tech against that quest. It is definitely one of the more tricky quests in the game, I talked about it quite a bit during my One Deck playthrough if you want more information on the general strategy I prefer for the quest. This was my try to build an optimized deck against the quest and I am fairly happy with the results so I decided to post the deck.

I went 5/5 (replays below) with this deck, I estimate the winrate to be somewhere around 90% for a player who knows the quest well. Nurn is a very difficult quest to manage, so a good knowledge of the quest and all its cards is required to play the deck correctly.

One should usually mulligan for Nori and go from here. If you are looking for a fun deck, look somewhere else ... this is a deck fully optimized for the quest without any regards to any metric except winrate and actually quite boring to play more than maybe once (games usually last 30-40 rounds with lots of recycling your cancels and Gandalfs for threat management).

(In my playthroughs I accidentally played Halbarad instead of Gimli. Gimli should work better though.)

Enjoy!!!

have you considered Thurindir? in all my wins against this szenario i had him, and it does not take this long. because of the many sidequests he fastens up the whole thing.

My original lineup was Sam-Thurindir-Eowyn-Beregond so, I completely agree, Thurindir is great for Fortress of Nurn.

Why I opted for Aragorn: My biggest issue with that deck was getting a second big enemy (4+ attack) or Ulchors Rage first turn which is an automatic hero loss if your starting hand is unsuited (and there are 11 copies of those cards in a 40 card encounter dekc). I wanted the ability to defend and kill 2 big enemies first turn if needed.

Also, his threat lowering is essential if you don't see Gandalf and he frees up Sword that was broken which equals much more wp than Thurindirs ability ever will.
