Progression 20.3: Nightmare Escape From Dol Guldur

Description

It's time for part 20.3 of the Progression Series, Nightmare Journey Escape From Dol Guldur! Last time, I fought off a horde of trolls and other creatures in Nightmare Journey Along the Anduin. For more information on that see here: (https://ringsdb.com/fellowship/view/12268)

This time, I will be attempting to beat Nightmare Escape From Dol Guldur. To see the full rules for my progression series see the first fellowship here: https://ringsdb.com/fellowship/view/11104/progression1thecoreset.

There will be no extra challenges for the Nightmare scenarios.

This was insane! I finally beat the quest on my 37th overall try. It was the 7th try with this fellowship and 3rd try with the current lineup. These decks worked perfectly in the winning game to rescue the captive hero, who ended up being Legolas, and escape the dungeons. Nightmare mode has some crazy stuff it tries to do to you, so allow me to explain the inclusion of a few lesser used cards. First and foremost, the Nazgûl of Dol Guldur is scary, but with the help of A Elbereth! Gilthoniel!, I only had to field one attack from him and then sent him screeching away to the bottom of the encounter deck. Both decks were designed to have fairly low starting threat and Aragorn was here so that when the time came, I was able to drop back down to a nice safe threat level and claim all the objectives. Balin was amazing, as he helped prevent the shadows on the Spider of Dol Guldur and the Torture Master from triggering most of the game. He, in tangent with Dark Knowledge, also helped to keep the Crazed Captives that came up from being too much of a problem. Stand and Fight is also amazing in this quest, because it allows you to get around the limit one ally per turn rule.

Please feel free to leave any comment or challenge suggestion for the next quest, as I take on the fourth adventure pack of the Against the Shadow cycle, Assault on Osgiliath!
