The concept of this deck is to use Palantir to see what is coming, then plan out the turn accordingly. There are many different ways to use your knowledge to avoid nasty effects. Obviously Eleanor can cancel treacheries. Minas Tirith Lampwright is there to stop surge. You can use Mariner's Compass to pull a surge location before it is revealed, or just shuffle the encounter deck.
Palantir also allows you to draw into a shut down combo. You use Ambush to kill enemies before they attack and use Anborn to bring back your traps as needed. After playing with decks that achieve that combo a lot I have learned that it is really a late game play to close out a quest, so don't feel like you need to go for it right away. Erebor Hammersmith is there to bring back traps as a cheaper faster option.
The deck is meant to be fun more than powerful so don't take it against the hardest quests. It struggles with questing and attack early, but it has all the tools it needs to eventually dominate. Enjoy :-)
I like the Minas Tirith Lampwright on paper, but in practice I have always found him underwhelming. I really like the idea of using the Palantir with him to guarantee you get the most bang for your buck. There is certainly some fun to be had here.
