General Deck Description
This deck is a combination of combat, support, and resource manipulation, revolving around the use of Grimbeorn as a powerful defender/attacker, while Arwen and Círdan ensure scenario control and deck manipulation. The deck utilizes a strong base of reasonably costed allies and tools to maintain a steady flow of cards and resources, keeping control over threats and progress.
Role of Each Hero:
Arwen Undómiel (Spirit)
Arwen is essential for accelerating the game, providing additional resources through her ability. Her access to the Spirit sphere brings important control, such as A Test of Will to cancel dangerous encounter card effects.
Círdan the Shipwright (Spirit)
Círdan provides strong card acceleration, allowing you to draw two cards and discard one each turn, improving deck consistency. He can also benefit from Narya, which turns his allies into a powerful offensive force or reliable defenders. Additionally, he can deploy Steward of Gondor, transforming any hero into a resource-generating machine.
Grimbeorn the Old (Tactics)
The tank of the deck. Grimbeorn is the centerpiece for dealing with enemies, capable of defending and immediately counterattacking by using his resources to activate his ability. Raiment of War, Unexpected Courage, and Steward of Gondor make him a true wall and a combat machine.
Key Strategies and Combos: Grimbeorn + Raiment of War + Unexpected Courage + Steward of Gondor + Magic Ring This combination turns Grimbeorn into a nearly indestructible wall (4 defense and 7 hit points!), allowing him to activate his ability frequently to eliminate enemies in the same turn he defends. It’s incredible to see him clearing the battlefield alone.
Narya + Círdan Narya allows Círdan to boost and ready allies, strengthening both defense and offense at crucial moments.
Card Manipulation with Imladris Stargazer and Elven-light The combo of Imladris Stargazer and Círdan helps set up card draws, ensuring you always have the necessary tools at the right time. Elven-light is an incredible card for Círdan’s forced discard and Arwen’s resource generation mechanics, serving as a constant source of card draw.
Threat Control and Effect Cancellation The deck includes Elrond’s Counsel to reduce threat and A Test of Will to cancel nasty reveal effects, greatly increasing safety during the encounter phase.
Card Recovery and Recycling Dwarven Tomb allows you to recover key events from the discard pile, such as A Test of Will or Elrond’s Counsel, while Will of the West (x1) prevents you from running out of cards in longer games.
Role of Allies: Northern Tracker: Essential for location control, helping to progress through locations without needing to explore them manually.
Galadriel’s Handmaiden: Reduces threat while providing 2 willpower to boost the quest phase.
Imladris Stargazer: Sets up future card draws, especially useful in combination with Círdan.
Misty Mountain Journeyman: A cheap and solid ally, offering good resilience and attack.
Knight of Belfalas: Allows recycling of important discarded allies, ensuring constant presence on the field and double attack.
Silvan Refugee: A cheap ally for quick questing, though fragile, great for early turns.
Strategy Summary: Establish Grimbeorn as the main defender, equipped with Raiment of War and possibly Unexpected Courage to activate his ability multiple times.
Control the scenario with questing allies like Northern Tracker and cancellation cards like A Test of Will.
Manipulate card draws using Círdan and Imladris Stargazer to always have access to your best tools.
Use Narya to reinforce your allies and finish off enemies at the right moment.
Strengths: Excellent threat control and card consistency.
Grimbeorn is a true fortress and can handle most enemies alone.
Great in longer games, thanks to Will of the West and card recycling.
