32 - Flight to the Ford (Progression Series)

Description

This is another fellowship continuing on in my goal to play through all of the quests in release order to learn how all (or most) of the cards interact with one another. The first fellowship for the quests in the core set can be found here, and it contains a slightly more detailed overview of what I'm going for with building these decks. As always, any feedback is appreciated so that I can continue to learn more!

As with the previous two quests, I am not playing any quests from the Saga boxes in campaign mode in order to preserve that experience for myself for later. As such I take no threat penalties for swapping out heroes, and don't really have to worry too much about having too many burdens shuffled into the deck (even though they are quite nasty even in a standalone environment).

I tried building around this deck a couple of different ways, and ultimately decided that the best way I could figure out how to do it is just a mad dash towards the finish line with as much willpower as possible. The Hobbit deck wants to keep its threat as low as possible, and then use a variety of tricks to keep enemies engaged with it without having to deal with the attacks. Feint, Hobbit-sense, and Out of Sight should be sufficient to keep the Nazguls engaged and have their threat out of the staging area. A well timed Son of Arnor can also help clear out some threat and wash an extra Nazgul down the river when you clear the Ford of Bruinen.

The Aragorn deck is all about getting Willpower on the table and then questing hard. The few times I beat the quest I did so without actually killing a single Nazgul (aside from Ford effect). Aragorn should get loaded up with all sorts of attachments so that he can quest and defend a few times to help out the Hobbits. With all of the attachments he can easily quest for 5 and then defend two attacks with 6 defense and 8 hit points. That should be plenty to handle attacks that engage with this deck, or when the Hobbits can't chump or Feint. If you can survive long enough to get the board state set up all of the spirit allies combined with Sword that was Broken should be able to get make enough progress before Frodo dies.
