DECK NAME - Trial by Fire

OVERVIEW - With the help of Gondorian Fire (thus the deck name), Boromir will one-shot the guardians in stage 3 before they even have a chance to attack. Won 8 in a row before publishing what I think is pretty much a skeleton key against this quest. Wins in 9-12 rounds.

HEROES

STRATEGY

  • OPENING HAND - look for card draw first, then Boromir attachments and attack cancellation
  • FIRST STAGE: Trial of Intuition - choose this quest first because it allows for the most flexibility; you can destroy the guardian and/or explore the location before advancing; a bit of turtling on this stage is preferred
  • SECOND STAGE: Trial of Perseverance - immediately travel to the location and try and explore the location next round
  • THIRD STAGE: Trial of Strength - be sure to destroy the guardian during player attacks step of combat phase
  • STAGE 3 - Boromir should have roughly 20 resources so he can ready and attack/kill Boar's Guardian (during the same player attacks step that advanced previous stage); then use 2X Quick Strike to kill the other 2 guardians during refresh phase; travel to Hallowed Circle next round and then clear the following round
  • REFRESH PHASE - this is where a lot of action happens; play Peace, and Thought using Boromir and Grima; also, you can exhaust Steward of Gondor during this action window and potentially play one or 2 Quick Strikes to kill a Guardian before it removes its time counter at the end of refresh phase; remember Gandalf isn't discarded until the end of the round so you could block and attack with him or even discard to the Boar's Guardian effect
  • OUTLANDS ALLIES - until Cave Barrow is in the victory display only put out 2X Ethir Swordsman and 2X Anfalas Herdsman leaving room for Gandalf to enter play
  • Gandalf - try to get all 6 threat reduction responses out of him before playing Will of the West
  • Gondorian Fire - the key to the deck; Boromir will eventually attack for 20 or so
  • Keys of Orthanc - fueled by Grima's action
  • Self Preservation - in case Boromir takes damage
