Darkling Door 6122

This is a deck built from just Core Set + The Sands of Harad cards for Path Less Traveled, an ongoing series on my blog, Darkling Door.

Played Against: Escape from Umbar

Leading the deck

This deck is pretty straightforward as far as solo decks go.

Each Hero plays a designated role: Éowyn quests, Gimli defends, and Legolas attacks. The Allies in the deck are also balanced to support these roles in equal measures—with just about anybody who has at least 1 falling under the "questing" role.

There's one wrinkle to the deck worth noting: because of Gimli's ability to give Legolas +1 , it's often worthwhile for me to send Legolas on the quest as long as Gimli has a resource to spare. I do this less for the 1 Legolas contributes (although every little bit helps) but moreso for the +1 that Gimli can grant him as long as he's exhausted—it's not uncommon for 1 to be the difference between killing an Enemy and having to keep it for one more round.

Other than that, the deck is basically just a collection of inexpensive but useful cards; it's fairly adaptive to a changing board state, and would make a good deck for someone who hasn't played a tri-sphere deck yet, but would like to give it a try.

I’m curious as to why you included Common Cause over Test of will or Hasty Stroke. I suppose you could exhaust Legolas with it to ready Gimli if you didn’t quest with him.

@Wandalf the Gizzard Well, the Treacheries in this quest aren't too bad (with one exception, if you're about to clear the quest) so I decided to pass on A Test of Will. The thought behind Common Cause was so that Gimli could essentially "ready himself" in case I found myself engaged with too many Enemies and in need of an extra defense, but in practice if I get caught with too few defenders and I need to exhaust my attacker just to ready a defender I'm probably unlikely to recover from that anyway. Hasty Stroke would probably be a fine replacement.
