GrandSpleen 1413
An old Gondor/Palantir deck I put together, updated now that we have a leadership Denethor. Used to have Lore Denethor in there and struggle with resources, but no more! The Heir of Mardil + Steward of Gondor combo on Denethor is very nice and offsets his Palantir exhaustion. The deck can struggle defensively against tougher enemies, but quests very well (being a Gondor swarm deck) once it gets established, and provided scry for the group. It can function in solo against some of the more mild quests, but does best in 2-3 player games.

May 08, 2016I like this deck. Have you thought about adding Henamarth Riversong for more reliable scrying? |
May 08, 2016He would help for sure, but it's a theme deck and only makes a few concessions. Aragorn and some of the events are really the only thematic mismatches (and maybe Gandalf depending on your perspective). And Aragorn does have his thematic place in a Gondor deck, just maybe not with Boromir and Denethor at his side. Lore Denethor actually did work very well in this deck mechanically, but money became a problem if you didn't draw into a Song of Kings (which was in an older version). If you do play this solo, a nice thing about the Palantir is that if you have a round with no combat or Surge, you will only be revealing one card off the top of the encounter deck, so you will know the next two cards in the deck when it's time to decide to scry or not next round. |
Very nice, I can definitely see this shining in multiplayer. I'm going to give it a try sometime.
