Thematic Saga Series: Deck 13

Journey to the Cross-roads

Series Overview

Welcome to the Thematic Saga Series, where I will be taking the most thematic decks possible against a modified Saga Campaign, on DragnCards. Here are the rules for this Campaign:

1: Your decks must be as accurate as possible to the books. So in A Shadow of the Past's case, because it takes place in the Shire, I will only be using Hobbit allies.

2: I am allowed to change heroes to fit the theme and I will not be incurring the +1 threat penalty while swapping heroes this way. For example, if I used an ally version of Legolas or Gimli in The Breaking of the Fellowship, I could swap heroes so I can us them as heroes in The Uruk-Hai.

I follow the rest of the rules for a standard Campaign.

The Theme

Rangers and Sam against one of the hardest quests in the game.

Game Notes

I played 2 games where I handled the enemy swarm decently, but ended up threating out as location lock and the threat of The Cross-Roads got to me. Game 3 I drew Mithril Shirt and Sting in my starting hand, and had Sam as pretty decent defender, (for 5 with his effect + Tireless Ranger) early on. Things went smoothly after that, and I was able to pull off a Faramir, Sneak Attack, and Entangling Nets combo a few times which took care of of enemies quickly. I didn't get an Ouliphant until 3 enemies into the Men of Harad deck, so that left me some time to prepare for them. I only ended up killing one of the three, and I ended the game with 2 engaged. I had put 0 enemies under the Cross Roads. Huzzah! Next up, back to only good ol' Sam and Frodo against a giant creepy spider!

My score was 136:

39 Threat,

10 Rounds,

12 Victory Points.

Boons Earned: Brace of Coneys.

Burdens Earned: None.

Next up, back to only good ol' Sam and Frodo against a giant creepy spider!

Why not include Ambush?

Not really worth it for 2 cost. Plus I normally can't one-shot an enemy without Entangling Nets.

Well, it's one cost with Damrod, and you don't really have defense.
