Con of the Rings 2023 Deck #5 - Bond of Friendship

This is the fifth of five decks I will be bringing to this year's Con of the Rings. My goal with the decks is to be able to play them with my physical collection and to minimise potential uniqueness conflicts wherever possible. I also don't want anything too janky - I don't want to drag the team down!

This was the last of my con decks to be built and as such needed to avoid clashing with the other decks where possible - this was mostly achieved. The aim for this deck was to be decently strong and reliable. I also wanted a deck with a more directed approach to location control, which is limited in the others.

So I have a Bond of Friendship deck - heavily inspired, at least in spirit, by Shellin's Mediocre-stuff deck. The idea being that Bond of Friendship is so strong that even by avoiding all the best unique cards you can end up with a capable deck.

The first two heroes I picked were Erkenbrand and Brand son of Bain - ranged and sentinel heroes who are less commonly used than their peers. Erkenbrand's shadow cancellation is extremely valuable for the quests this deck might face and I'm a real fan of Brand - I think his ability is generally underestimated.

These heroes take the deck's threat up to 20 with two heroes still to pick, so Merry and Pippin join to keep the starting threat on the low end, as well as a couple of different threat-based benefits.

The deck contains 10 allies geared towards location control and among the attachments are a number of mounts, which will help if playing any ALeP quest involving Vast locations.

The sideboard is varied and, most importantly, includes a number of alternative hero options to insulate at least a little against uniqueness conflicts.
