I had a LotR game night with two friends recently, and I volunteered to build a set of three decks for the group. I decided to go with decks that were consistent, but with some thematic allowance.
We played the first quest of the Sands of Harad box. We were headed for a solid win, but made the mistake of leaving too few ready characters when advancing to the second quest card, and got swamped by three surging enemies all at once.
The first deck is a pure Voltron deck - with an emphasis on Mounts (the second deck uses Elfhelm). Roheryn gives Aragorn a tactic icon, which allows him to double up on the stat bonuses. Extra copies of Armored Destrier and Unexpected Courage are the only attachments that should be played on other players' heroes.
This deck doesn't generate much extra resources, but relies on getting send some to both pay for it's most expensive cards and trigger Gimli's and Aragorn's readying effects repeatedly (in the case of Aragorn, it's mostly important in the early game - Unexpected Courage takes care of it latter on).
