Darkling Door 6446
This is a thematic deck built for an ongoing series on my blog, Darkling Door.
Theme: The Army of Gondor
Played Against: Nightmare The Siege of Cair Andros
"We should not lightly abandon the outer defences, the Rammas made with so great a labour. And the Enemy must pay dearly for the crossing of the River. That he cannot do, in force to assail the City, either north of Cair Andros because of the marshes, or southwards towards Lebennin because of the breadth of the River, that needs many boats."
—Denethor, The Seige of Gondor, The Return of the King
Strategy
This deck is good at one thing, and one thing only: aggressively Siege questing.
Because of his ability to ready up after questing, Boromir is my primary defender, with chump blocking being pretty common too. If I'm lucky, I might be able to scrape together enough power to kill Enemies from time to time, but that's not the primary goal here. The primary goal is just to quest like a maniac and rush the encounter deck before it knows what hit it.
As such, there's not a ton of nuance to the deck—the first Gondorian Shield goes on Boromir to turn him into a more effective defender. But beyond that, I just play as many Allies as I can afford each round, sometimes saving a resource to allow me to play an Event.
It doesn't take long for this deck to burn itself out on threat; it'll either win quickly and decisively or go out in a blaze of glory.
