Nightmare Weather Hills hits you hard with three main obstacles:
- Lots of direct damage, then punishing you for having damaged characters.
- Location lock
- Lots of Enemies
Direct Damage
To deal with the first we need lots of healing. For that we have Elrond, but furthermore we exploit one of the encounter cards, Cold from Angmar. Once that comes out it will let us heal up to 9 damage off Beorn in one go with Healing Herbs. There are 3 Cold from Angmar in the encounter deck, so I find they turn up in pretty much every game. Just keep in mind Beorn loses his ability to defend without exhausting while he's damaged.
Location Lock
For the second we need lots of willpower. We also use Secret Paths to get ourselves out of location lock. There is a nightmare location with 5 threat that is a great target for this.
Enemies
For the third we require the ability to quickly dispatch enemies once they appear, because you are likely to be turning one up every round. The combo of Elrond as defended and Beorn as attacker works really well in the early game, and once Treebeard is out he can help with both attack and defense.
Quest Review
Overall, this is a very difficult quest, especially if you are playing without power decks. I highly recommend the quest overall however, as it offers a great challenge, especially in solo, where your deck needs to be capable of dealing with both the surging Weather cards and the extra enemies from clearing the active location.
