"I do not slay man or beast needlessly, and not gladly even when it is needed. (...) I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend." (Faramir, The Two Towers)
This is a thematic fun-deck built mostly from leftovers in the box, which can be used against easy scenarios (solo) or to support a group of stronger decks.
The theme is based on Faramir's role in the book, leading a band of loyal rangers in the forest of Ithilien. Therefore, I put in many Gondorian rangers with their necessary equipment as well as cards that fit the idea of sneaking through the woods (Noiseless Movement, Forest Patrol)), reading tracks (Expert Trackers) and ambushing enemies (traps, obviously).
Denethor is, of course, a nice addition, because he was actually Faramir's father, who was often displeased with him and called him "a wizard's pupil" (because he listened to Mithrandir's Advice, unlike his brother Boromir). For playing the deck, his ability is similar to Ithilien Lookout, so that you can plan better and know which traps you want to set.
Some healers from Minas Tirith are also present to tend the wounded. Note that the deck is "race-proof", i.e. there are no Elves, Dwarves etc. and no cards that refer to unfitting traits.
Successful playtesting (solo):
- Passage through Mirkwood
Successful playtesting (2-handed with this deck):
- Journey along the Anduin
- Foundations of Stone
