The threat ramps up quite rapidly, but the deck is quite fun solo. Well, there are the Gandalfs and the Secret Vigils to lower threat, but it's not so reliable. Beorn is there to hold your position while you are building a viable board presence.
The main combos are:
- Captain's Wisdom + Greenwood Archers to get them out for free
- Sneak Attack + Gandalf: it's nice to have them early to reduce threat
- Dwarrowdelf Axe + Foe-hammer for card draw (However, King Under the Mountain is vitally important!)
- A Very Good Tale to help you build your board quickly, which is necessary with such a high starting threat
The deck is not meant to beat the Battle of Five Armies saga quest, but you can give it a try. The main idea was to include heroes and characters from a thematic standpoint, related to the battle of five armies from the Hobbit - Thorin, Beorn, Gloin, Gandalf, Dale knights, dwarven warriors, silvan warriors, eagles.\
So far, the deck has been successful against Journey Along the Anduin, Massing at Osgiliath and the Watcher in the Water.
I'll need to play a few more quests to see how it handles a variety but I tried it against JATA and had fun! I eventually had Dwarrowdelf Axe on Azain, so he could take out a 4HP orc by himself AND use his ability to take out those pesky snipers. (Heh, the dwarf snipes the sniper).
Have you thought about King Under the Mountain for card draw? A thematic fit and could mean there wouldn't be as much relying on Foe-Hammer + 1 of the 3 weapon cards. Could even try your luck with those free Ered Luin Miner's in that case too.
Narvi's Belt on Thorin could help smooth resources, especially once he gets his 5+ dwarf benefit going later on.
