Denison 633
Here is the trio that led my way through the Black Riders saga box and the two saga PODs. I was looking for a non-Hobbit group that could handle things and possibly pair well with the traditional low-threat Hobbit team. This also represents the first deck with this trio on ringsdb. Even outside the Saga campaigns this is a group that fares well in any quest that allows for side quests.
HEROES
Eowyn serves as the primary quester and backup defender. Once she gets Snowmane, Golden Shield, Noble Hero and Anduril, she is defending for 8!
Beravor is there for her card draw, but quests when the extra push is needed and the board is set up. There are many 1x and 2x in the deck because Beravor and Gathering Information quickly finds the needed pieces in short order. There have been occasions when I draw though the deck, but that has always resulted in a win.
Glorfindel is the attacker, thus he gets the first two blades. In a few rounds he is attacking for 9 and one-shoting many of the Nazgul.
The Frodo version that enables an extra resource each turn is so helpful in getting an Unexpected Courage out on turn 1. That can help Berevor draw cards or have Eowyn around for Hide tests.
OPENING HAND
Unexpected Courage, A Test of Will, or any Side Quest is helpful right away. Drawing three cards every round lessens the need to absolutely have to have something in the opening hand.
STRATEGY
The deck remained constant throughout except for the sideboards for the Bill Ferny situation (I took out the Envoys and Proud Hunters.) I ended up having everyone chuck stones at him for a fun opener to that quest.
Shadows of the Past and The Old Forest lend themselves to a side quest strategy, but I found the others allowed for a bit of turtling as well. Even Flight to the Ford gave me ample opportunity to max out the Legacy Blades.
I ended up using Arwen's bonus on the Derndingle Warrior to help get to a solid 6 defense. Warden of Healing was there to patch the tree up after combat. The Vigilant DĂșnadan saw less work here than I expected, largely due to the predominance of hard-hitting Nazgul. The Keep Watch, Arwen, Dunadan combo still worked a few times and each time was entertaining to execute.
SESSIONS
It took about 8 games to get through these 5 quests, so the decks seem pretty reliable.
