Thematic LOTR Saga

Check out my first deck for a full intro to playing the Thematic LOTR Saga.

Theme

For this deck I wanted a Bree theme and thanks to ALeP we can now do that!

Storyline Heroes: Sam Gamgee, Merry, Pippin, Aragorn, any Bree.

Close Heroes (+1 threat): Any non-Bree. Hobbit., Gandalf

Theme for this deck: Bree undefended attacks.

  • Mix of Hobbits. Dunedain. and Bree. all are closely story related.

Off-Theme Allies & Attachments

Strategy

Aragorn can be used to pull Bill Ferny down from the staging area, which seems pretty thematic. The high ally count also helps with questing when Bill Ferny is out.

Barliman Butterbur is great with a Bree Pony and Harry Goatleaf as he can take 2 off undefended attacks and then draw you cards. Keep Watch helps as well.

One thing to be careful of is questing through too quickly and not getting Bill Ferny killed before moving on. You can use player side-quests to keep from advancing too fast.

Comments

This was a super fun deck to play. It felt so thematic and appropriate for the quest. I had never tried a Bree. themed deck and was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. I can definitely see some promise it, especially mixed with a broader card pool.

Nice deck! I don't think Aragorn's ability is needed as you start at 36 threat. However, if you swapped for Merry, I guess you would start too low. I would add Thorongil for a bit more threat reduction via Aragorn.

@NERD, you are right about the starting threat!

Thorongil would be a nice addition too. I ended up playing through pretty quickly, but some threat control would have been nice.

I love these 2 decks and the idea of this series hope to see more in the future.
