I've been playing through the Sagas recently and got the impression my Frodo and Aragorn cards must feel left out since I've only been allowed to choose versions for the last dozen scenarios, so I tried to make a wonky secrecy deck using just the two of them.

This deck is just all right, it definitely could be more optimized, but it is fun and it beats Journey Along the Andiun as long as you have about 12 rounds to wait. Mulligan for Resourceful for Frodo, because we will need to use his ability basically every turn to stay within secrecy, although an early Timely Aid can be pretty good too.

After dumping all our secrecy cards early and having our threat inevitably tick up, try to save Aragorn's ability for when our hand has been refilled with more secrecy cards. Ideally this will be done immediately after playing a free Pillars of the Kings.

This deck very slowly builds up to an eventually impressive board state but can struggle with card draw at times. Ideally you want Frodo with a couple Resourceful, a Cloak, a Staff, and at least one Fast Hitch to be our primary defender. Rosie Cotton can help in a pinch.

When questing, use Frodo's ability on Aragorn early on but eventual targets include Gandalf, Elrond, and especially Gildor Inglorion if in play so we can use his draw effect and his willpower.

Late game we want the Sword that was Broken and/or Merry to help with any final questing push.

Potential Improvements:

  • Folco Boffin would make the deck much better but he kind of goes against the theme
  • Strider would be brilliant, would recommend adding that if you own it

add 1-3 Faramir

I would add a third Drinking Song to find your secrecy cards faster. Pillars of the Kings seems pointless.

I'm not super well versed in secrecy decks, but this deck can struggle to maintain secrecy since the only reliable reduction is Frodo's ability if you have the resources to spare. In my playthroughs I was eventually sitting at 25ish threat after several rounds with doom affects/treacheries. At that point is where I would trigger Aragorn's ability, and if I'm going to do that, isn't it better to use Pillars and get four free cards first? Maybe that's not actually a good strategy and I should just add more threat reduction and other card draw, I don't know.

And good call on Faramir, pairs well with Frodo's ability.

That makes sense. Pillars of the Kings means you will engage any enemies you had been leaving in the staging area. However, I could see how its still useful.

Couldn't you play Pillars in the refresh phase right before you use Aragorn's ability? Then you wouldn't have to engage anyone.
