Con of the Rings 2023 Deck #4 - Haldir Secrecy

This is the fourth of five decks I will be bringing to this year's Con of the Rings. My goal with the decks is to be able to play them with my physical collection and to minimise potential uniqueness conflicts wherever possible. I also don't want anything too janky - I don't want to drag the team down!

The idea behind this deck is maximising the power of Haldir of Lórien's attack ability and so reduce the pressure of combat for the whole table. Meaning, we want to avoid being engaged if possible and destroy enemies before they attack or even before they engage.

This directed me to a secrecy build and with it, Hobbit heroes. Access to is required to give Haldir enough firepower, leading to Merry's inclusion. In order to find another hero with low threat that supports the deck well I turned to the Messenger of the King contract and Rosie Cotton, giving a great starting threat of 19.

Most of the deck is built around getting Haldir setup to do his thing, so includes 8 Weapon attachments and a large amount of card draw. The final card to give Haldir the edge is Swift and Strong which allows an extra attack - there will be no shortage of targets - and to punch up the attack power for when 7 isn't enough.

ALeP's A Lesson in Caution and Resourceful take advantage of secrecy and Secret Vigil helps the whole team with threat. Finally there is some Hobbit support with Fast Hitch and Friend of Friends.

The sideboard includes additional support cards and threat reduction. Halfast Gamgee provides an alternative if Rosie causes a conflict. Finally, 3 Derndingle Warriors can be brought in if needed to relieve enemy pressure for this deck or for teammates, likely replacing the Galadhon Archers.
