This deck was designed for The Lonely Mountain as part of a multiplayer game. Generally the other players bring strong questing/combat decks, and I try to ring something to deal with the specific challenge of the quest. In this instance, Smaug the Magnificent.

"Forced: If Smaug the Magnificent is dealth a shadow card with a burgle effect, he makes an additional attack after this one." - as he gets a new shadow card for the second attack, this can go on, and on, and on, swinging for 8 each time.

Shadows Give Way is an obvious, but expensive way to deal with Shadow cards, and it can be recurred with Map of Earnil. Silver Lamp is so that you know when to play the event. Rider of the Mark is another good bit of shadow removal - I'm considering throwing in a few copies of Song of Travel so that others can send it back again if they're not running Spirit. Hasty Stroke is for a card with a nasty shadow effect but no Burgle.

As a secondary feature, I want to be able to use Dáin Ironfoot to defend some of these big incoming attacks, hence the various defence boosts.

Zigil Miner and Imladris Stargazer are to generate enough resources to pay for everything / control what gets discarded to pay for Dain's ability.

As it's designed to be a multiplayer deck and I've only had a chance to test it solo, I've no idea how effective it will be. I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts.

Neat idea. I've always liked decks that focus on one particular challenge of the quest. To counter their gimmick, you could say. Did you consider Shadow of the Past to manufacture Burgle-less shadow cards?

Arwen would be a nice substitution for Nori, but I see you're doing something thematic here with your hero choices. I like shadow discard for this quest and I remember using Rider of the Mark to do it 2-player back when that and Dawn Take You All were the only cards in the card pool that allowed you to do this. Nowadays if I were building a deck with your goal in mind, I would probably go mono-leadership and recur Dawn Take You All, or leadership/tactics and include Beregond with Staff of Lebethron for repeatable shadow discard. The leadership strategy would lend itself well to chump blocking as well. In this deck, I would probably cut Silver Lamp (only useful in the last part of the game when Smaug is considered engaged, and even then only useful in 1 out of X turns, where X is the number of players, since Smaug is only considered engaged with the first player). Ring of Thror will miss often even with Stargazer helping since the number of attachments here is low, but you want that Sentinel on Dain and you might want him defending multiple times: maybe add 1 or 2 more copies of Armor of Erebor to get it more consistently, and some Miruvor for on-demand readying to top off the deck.
