Nov 06, 2020Since I saw Desperate Alliance in the deck I presumed that the game plan was to use it in the planning phase to give away Saruman, trigger Aragorn's ability and lower the threat to 25, hence the title of this deck |
Nov 07, 2020would not work, i think. giving away a hero (or let one die) does not reduce the startingthread, because the starting thread is not recalculated. once you have it, it stands for the rest of the game (except cards tell you otherwise) e.g. tacticeowyn does not reduce your startingthread. the reduction comes after determing the startingthread. |
Nov 07, 2020If you are at let's say 45 Threat and in the Refresh Phase you first play Desperate Alliance and then trigger Aragorn's ability it works in the sense that it lets you reduce your threat to 36 (your starting threat since you take into account (MotK) Glorfindel increase) ignoring Saruman's limitations. But it will not bring you down to 25 Threat (that is to say counting only Aragorn and Saruman). That's what I believe is the "mistake" of the deck creator. |
Just in case I feel the need to point out that using Aragorn's ability will bring this deck back to 36 threat, non 25, since the Messenger of the King ally modifies the starting threat level.
