I’ve been having a lot of fun with the new A Perilous Voyage contract. I never made a Dwarf mining deck, but thought this contract would be a good opportunity to make one.

I was very surprised with how well this deck ended up working. The key is to get either Fili or Kili in your opening hand to buff Thorin Oakenshieldand Óin. Then just start mining with Dáin Ironfoot, King Under the Mountain, and the Contract. In most games, I’ve worked through about 80% of the deck, and have almost decked out on a couple of occasions.

Before playing I had been freaked out by the threat raise, and the inability to lower your threat, especilly after you flip the contract. In practice, I’ve only lost one game due to threat, which was the Drowned Ruin, when the Temple to Morgoth location raises your threat by 5. However, this deck beat the quest on the next play through.

Usually by Turn 3 or so you are up and running. It quests, defends, and attacks well. The only thing it doesn’t do is heal. I have Ever My Heart Rises in the side board for additional readying, although you don’t get the threat reduction benefit.
