The best card for a Dunedain deck is Forest Snare, because it allows you to keep multiple enemies engaged with you without the need to defend. Now, the new card Armored Destrier, especially combined with Elfhelm, gives a new option to keep multiple enemies at bay for several turns. This deck is intended for multiplayer, and it gets more ridiculous with more players.
Early cards to look for are the Destrier, Forest Snare, and Entangling Nets. A netted enemy is often attacking for 2 or less, so they are generally safe to defend. Amarthiúl with a Destrier defends at 4, then he can either defend a second enemy (with no shadow card) or he can attack back for 4 (because of Elfhelm's buff since he is both leadership and tactics). Give him another Destrier and now you can block 3 attacks each round with only 1 shadow card. Dark Knowledge actually comes in handy here because it lets you figure out which shadow cards are safe and which need to be discarded. With Captain of Gondor, Amarthiul can be defending and attacking at 5.
So, basically, between Entangling Nets, Armored Destrier, and Forest Snare, it's not hard to remain engaged with 3+ enemies. At that point, Heir of Valandil and all the other Dunedain cards become insanely good. The rest of the deck is there to set up the combos and give other heroes Elfhelm's bonus. I haven't actually tried out Heed the Dream yet, but this deck has the right mix of spheres to make it work.

Jul 26, 2016I'm glad you found the deck :) Damrod is definitely strapped for all of his resources in this deck, which is why I wouldn't recommend the Mirkwood Explorers. Dunedain Watchers are mostly a safety net in case you do catch a nasty shadow, but I could see replacing them with Rangers of Cardolan. As long as you have enough Dunedain allies to make Heir of Valandil and Descendant of Kings worthwhile. You could also consider adding Errand Riders to smooth the resources. Heed the Dream can probably go because there is nothing you are dying to find in the deck. Arod is mostly there because you can play it on any hero, so in a multiplayer game you can give it to whoever would benefit most from Elhelm's effect. Also if you can't find any other mounts for Amarthiul, you can give it to him to get the extra stats. |
Jul 26, 2016I added Mirkwood explorers because I wanted to see how strong they are. Sadly so far I had none in my hand. So they aren't making much difference in resource balancing.. I am playing solo right now (questing with Damrod, Elfhelm and each copy of Rangers of Cardolan), for multiplayer I'd suggest adding Dunedain Chace and Dunedain Mark (or a Gondorian Fire) on Amariul. Then there would be more purple resources to spend.. |
Searching ideas for a third matching hero for Elfhelm and Amarthiul, found this deck. Looks very interesting. I tried a slightly modified version. Took out Dundedain Watcher and Arod, also Heed the Dream. Added 3x Ranger of Cardolan, a second copy of Eldahir and 2x Mirkwood Explorer. Indeed, very interesting concept. But I think the resources are not really balanced. I ended up with lots of resources on Amarthuil and to less on Damrod.
