My first play through Intruders in Chetwood.

Given the lack of forced engagements, I thought this might not be a bad quest for Fatty Bolger to make a rare appearance, as sacrificing threat for progress tokens isn't as bad an exchange as usual.

My main concern was getting past the Orc War Party at the start - why kill it when you can just discard it with Hunting Party? I tended to mulligan for it, although ironically my one victory came in a game when I didn't get it!

This requires a Scout character, so I thought this might also be a nice time to try the new <span Aragorn. Despite been widely disparaged when he was released, I think he is great - whenever you have a location in the staging area, you can effectively defer questing with him until after staging, giving you that flexibility to keep him ready for an enemy, or use his action to boost your questing if none appear.

This deck works best when you can get out the 2 allies quickly to hold up the questing, while your heroes deal with enemies. If you can get some action advantage through Steed of the North or Unexpected Courage, all the better.

Sword that was Broken is also crucial to boost my willpower and give some resource smoothing.

Defence comes through any of the heroes, preferably boosted by Arwen Undómiel and a Dúnedain Warning - I would typically aim for Amarthiúl, but most enemies will damage you, so I often had to defend with Aragorn or even Fatty and Iarion as well.

Generally I did struggle with this quest - maybe it was bad luck (Angmar Marauder as a shadow card still gives me nightmares), or maybe my deck isn't quite up to scratch - generally too many early enemies put me in the most trouble.

In the end Fatty Bolger probably didn't pull his weight, so in hindsight maybe Frodo Baggins would have been a better choice - use my threat to defend.

I did eventually grind out a win, with 30 Victory Points to boot - when you have got your board state set, and have a clear staging area, this game is really easy. The difficulty is getting there!
