doomguard 2121

the most important decision is made before the game:

what guarded attachement and ringcard do you want?

in more battleheavy szenarios (or some with an engaged enemy from the start) Sting and Inner Strength might be the choices, in multiplayer and where more questingpower from the start is needed, you might pick up Strider and The Master Ring

if taking sting nothing special is needed, discard the guarding enemy with his ability and start with sting in the 1. round

if not, you should try to get Necklace of Girion early out. it has "enemy or location" as guarded. you have some tools to reduce the coming of locations and then discard the enemy with fattys ability or make it easier to explore the location.

there is:

  • Celduin Traveler, play him before playing the necklace, then you can discard a possible location,
  • if a location is revealed, use The Master Ring and hope the next card is an enemy. (i am not sure if the master ring do not free the guarded at all?)
  • if both fail, use Explorer's Almanac to fasten the exploration of the location.

everything else is standart-hobbit-song-secrecy

the increased amout of card shoud not be such a problem, with 3 Master of the Forge and 1 Gléowine + Lórien's Wealth + drining song, should not be such a problem draw many cards

I think your Sting + Fatty Bolger combo doesn't work. Guarded (X) makes you discard cards until a proper card is discarded and then add that card to the staging area. Fatty's ability works on an enemy revealed from the encounter deck.

it seems, you are right, there is a difference between guarded and guarded (x) not only the type of the guarding card, also the reveal/discard and add

When an objective with the Guarded Keyword is revealed, reveal the next card from the encounter deck and attach the card with the Guarded Keyword to it and place them both in the staging area.

"Guarded (X) is a new version of the Guarded Keyword. When a card with Guarded (X) is revealed, instead of revealing the next card from the encounter deck, discard cards from the encounter deck until an encounter card with the matching type is discarded. Then, add it to the staging area and attach the just revealed objective to it. Once attached, an objective with Guarded (X) works just like an objective with the Guarded Keyword."

so, no surge or doomed from guarded (x)

but poor fatty, not so mighty. ^^ so this deck makes not this much sense anymore.
