Not all cards are always needed, e.g. For Gondor! or three times Protector of Lórien, but with the latter attached to a hero they can be used for the action and come in handy. Main strategy is letting Glóin beeing damaged and healing him. First with Glorfindel, if need be, later with Self Preservation or Daughter of the Nimrodel and so on. In one game Gloin was even blocked by Caught in a web. Still he took some undefended attacks (Shadow card checked by Henamarth Riversong before delt, or Dark Knowledge). I won "The Old Forest" by NinjaDorg (https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/66659/ninjadorgs-lotr-lcg-scenarios) even though an undefended shadowcard killed 2 daughters of the Nimrodel and a handfull of other allies mid game.
