Darkling Door 6141

This is a thematic deck built for an ongoing series on my blog, Darkling Door.

Theme: The quest to find Meneltarma

Played Against: Nightmare The Fate of Númenor

"For the Dúnedain held that even mortal Men, if so blessed, might look upon other times than those of their bodies’ life; and they longed ever to escape from the shadows of their exile and to see in some fashion the light that dies not; for the sorrow of the thought of death had pursued them over the deeps of the sea. Thus it was that great mariners among them would still search the empty seas, hoping to come upon the Isle of Meneltarma, and there to see a vision of things that were."

Akallabêth, The Silmarillion

Strategy

A quirky mono Burglar's Turn Scout deck that combines a lot of underappreciated cards! The Attachments in the deck are the loot deck.

Tips

  • All three Heroes can be used as defenders, but Gilraen needs some set-up from the loot deck first. In the late game, Idraen mostly switches to being a quester / attacker, so put Weapons on her first.
  • Gilraen appreciates keeping a wimpy Enemy around to fuel her card draw ability, but don't prioritize that over keeping combat under control.
  • Always commit Idraen to the quest. You want to be clearing a Location every round when possible.
  • When in doubt, hold back Aragorn and decide after staging whether you want to use him to help with threat reduction or combat.
  • If you've been putting progress on a Location with Aragorn, you can sometimes exhaust Idraen for Strength of Will, exploring the Active Location and then readying her right back up to get a piece of loot early. Remember that she won't ready after questing in the following round, though.
  • Your most useful Ally is Hunting Dogs, since they'll pretty much always ready due to the loot deck attachment from The Burglar's Turn.
  • The sideboard contains some cards you might fetch with Without My Hat. Prioritize getting Gilraen set up as a sturdy defender if the loot deck hasn't done that already.
  • The loot deck tries to balance solo play needs (healing and readying) with the theme. The deck is fun to bring to a multiplayer game, but you may consider subbing more Guarded or otherwise expensive Attachments in for Lembas, Miruvor, and Pint.
