I used this deck to beat escape from Dol Guldur quest, after several attempts. Some tips and conditions to advance the game beyond the starting hand:
- Denethor was always chosen as the captured hero.
- I would (most likely) mulligan if I did not have Steward of Gondor, Unexpected Courage or Celebrían's Stone in my starting hand. I had Steward of Gondor, Gandalf and Sneak Attack in my starting hand on my victorious attempt.
- The focus in the first rounds is to free Denethor as soon as possible, have Gandalf to attack the Nazgûl and hope for less brutal cards from the encounter deck. Attach the Steward of Gondor to Aragorn on round 2 and make use of his hability from there.
- As soon as Denethor is free, we can use his hability to control the dangers coming from the encounter deck and plan our next moves.
I use the heroes in the sideboard to tackle the other quests from the core set, which makes the deck very similar to Seastan’s single core deck.
