A good all purpose deck for a nice stroll through Mirkwood. As a solo deck, Bilbo Baggins will always draw two cards during refresh so it's easier to cycle through the deck. Théodred keeps resources flowing early in the game and once a Steward of Gondor hits the table, you're set (forget about two getting out). At the end of games I've found myself swimming in resources and a huge hand just waiting to play events as needed.

Bilbo Baggins can become a super-blocker with Protector of Lórien, A Burning Brand, and Fast Hitch attached. Canceling the shadow effect of any attacker keeps the power low and if he needs a boost, you can discard to raise his defense using Protector of Lórien. Fast Hitch allows him to quest and defend or attack.

Théodred becomes the super-quester in this crew and loading him up with Celebrían's Stone, Dúnedain Quest, Protector of Lórien, and The Favor of the Lady, allow him to carry the heavy load of questing. I find that I put the Song of Travel on him as well as the Steward of Gondor so he can put out the cards when they come up.

Legolas is generally just hanging out trying to slay whatever he can to help advance the quest. He does well with the Support of the Eagles and teaming up with the other eagle allies to become the big attacker of the bunch.

Some adjustments need to be made for particular APs but it never feels completely outmatched or without options. I've had several heroes go down early in a quest and still claw back into it.

A fun deck to play for the Mirkwood Cycle!

Just to clarify, what do you mean by "forget about two getting out" while talking of Steward of Gondor?

Sorry, what I meant was, if you get two copies of Steward of Gondor out, you won't have anything to worry about playing anything because you'll be flooded with resources.

I thought it was something like this. Steward of Gondor is a unique card and if there is a copy a specific unique card already in play no one (nor you nor other players) can play another copy of that card. So basically you are limited to only 1 Steward of Gondor in play per group.

Ah, you're right! That explains why that one game was so easy ;) I'll have to look for other ways I was accidentally cheating with the deck. Let me know if you see any other inconsistencies.

A possibly important distinction, you don't draw cards during the refresh phase (which is the last phase of a round), but during the resource phase (which is the first phase of a round).

A Burning Brand post-errata needs to be exhausted and is restricted so remember you can have max 2 of them on a single character and each copy can only cancel 1 shadow.

For the rest remember that what I said about unique cards applies to allies too (so no double Faramir). I would also think if it's worth including Strength of Will (especially since you need to see a Song of Travel before being able to use it. I would switch The Favor of the Lady for a 3rd copy of Dúnedain Quest too. Another possible route would be using some Song of Battle on Bilbo to attach to him too a Support of the Eagles to make him a better defender.

Gotcha! In my games I actually never found myself with more than one A Burning Brand on the table at a time but good to remember. I have remembered with characters about the unique card rule (it's was a little easier to remember that there couldn't be two Faramir's running around.) That would be amazing if there could be two of him out. All questing troubles would be no more.

I actually been thinking of taking Strength of Will out of the deck because if I put Song of Travel on Théodred and he is always questing I don't usually have another character to exhaust when I travel. I could put some Unexpected Courage in the deck but then I'm starting to get too much and relying on the song too much. I might just ditch the song entirely and replace the cards with two more Support of the Eagles like you said and some other ones. The thing holding me back is that Northern Tracker is just sooooo good and I love seeing them show up and do a lot of work in the quest.

Could you tell me a situation in which it is important to remember that the draw happens in the resource phase and not the refresh? I'd like to know so I know what to prepare for.

There might be times when negative stuff, like an enemy attack, happens "at the end of the round", which is the very last part of a round (after the refresh phase), before the next round starts. Since the "end of the round" is before next round's resource phase you would not already have in hand the cards you will draw then, which means you would have less options (and possibly less cards for Protector of Lorien if the negative stuff is an enemy attacking and you want to defend with Bilbo)
