DECK NAME - Spideresque
NOTE: I do not use treasure/campaign cards in my decks, but I use Bilbo's Magic Ring specifically for this quest because it is part of the actual scenario.
OVERVIEW - This deck is not what immediately came to mind when I was looking at this particular quest. I was determined to use Thalin along with some direct damage (perhaps with Dúnhere as well), but I was struggling a bit with when it mattered. In the end, I discovered that mono- works great as long as you have these three particular heroes. Frodo Baggins is the linchpin as is the OHaUH Gandalf. Wins usually take 6-9 rounds. Just won 10 straight easily.
HEROES
- Eowyn - she quests
- Frodo - attach 3X Resourceful if able; quest with him and take undefended attacks; since he cancels the damage he is not poisoned; also since he is not a defender the "attach poison to defending character" shadow cards whiff; be careful if he has a poison card on him as it only takes 2 to make him unconscious (Lazy Lob)
- Glorfindel - attach Light of Valinor; try to make sure he is ready each round for a counterattack against any enemies you may engage
- Bilbo Baggins - be sure to grab Bilbo's Magic Ring before moving on to 2A
STRATEGY
- SETUP - Resourceful w an Elrond's Counsel is great; also A Test of Will or Gandalf
- STAGE 1B - should be able to clear in 2 rounds; good to get a Resourcefuls on Frodo and/or Gandalf in play; remember to discard any poison cards that happen to be on any character made unconscious
- STAGE 3B - Bilbo Baggins can ready unconscious characters starting with Frodo who hopefully has some Resourceful attachments; keep Bilbo ready for when you move on past 3B
- STAGE 4B - should be able to quest past The Spider's Glade and 4b in one round; add Wicked Spider from the location effect
- THREAT REDUCTION - 3X Elrond's Counsel, 3X The Galadhrim's Greeting, and 3X Dwarven Tomb if needed (though that's probably overkill)
- CARD DRAW - 3X Ancient Mathom and 3X Song of Eärendil
- Envoy of Pelargir - best to keep ready for attacking back rather than questing or chumping
- Gandalf - when he is unconscious his forced effect does not trigger so be sure to get him out before moving on from 1b
- A Test of Will - try and save for Lazy Lob
- Shadow of the Past - use to set yourself up for a stress-free round; could potentially include A Watchful Peace instead but it might become a shadow card
