Stryder and Sam dart into the brush, fully aware that they are severely outnumbered by the enemy. No matter, powerful friends are not far behind, and they hold the advantage of surprise....

I'm not an expert deck-builder by any means, but this definitely tested my abilities. It's my first time building a two-hero deck and it took a while to figure out how it might all come together while not being completely worse than a simpler, more orthodox deck type. The main idea here is that you aren't really playing your main allies, but rather that you bring them in via Sneak Attack, A Very Good Tale and Timely Aid when you really need them, taking advantage of the start threat of 20 to get the secrecy discount. Without a doubt, Timely Aid and Resourceful are the cards you want to mulligan for.

You'll notice that you really don't get to stay in secrecy for long, which is why we're using Aragorn to reset threat back even if you're not particularly high in threat level. Better yet is to utilize the fact that this is a small party of heroes who can Vanish from Sight, should they wish! If you don't have the cards you need, it's worthwhile to Sneak Attack Gandalf for the card draw, or for extra threat reduction if you already have the secrecy cards you need. Since half the deck is events, it's probably a good idea to name events whenever you use Expert Treasure-hunter to get some extra card draw.

I'll be playing this deck alongside Michael's Lore Tactics ent deck, which also starts at low threat and builds gradually. Version 1 used two copies of Leaf Brooch which barely saw use (thanks doomguard for the catch); now those have been swapped out for Take No Notice.

Consider Strider too

That was suggested on the previous version as well! Unfortunately I don't have access to it with my current cardpool.

3x A very good tale if you want to get all this expensive allies. Elf-stone would be another great cards that I would take advantage of. I think you're going to need more copies of Sam Gamgee's defending attachments (i.e. Hobbit Cloak and Staff of Lebethron) to reliably gt them each game. The only problem with this deck is that, like you said you're not in secrecy for very long. Aragorn will help, a little, and both Vanish from Sight and Needful to Know are good, but I think you need some more threat reduction in general. Maybe Woodmen's Clearing?

Thanks for the suggestions! For the next version, I've planned for 2x Fast Hitch Hobbit Cloak Staff of Lebethron. Unfortunately I don't have Woodmen's Clearing (i bought packs based on what was on sale, so it's a bit of a hodgepodge of cards), Since I don't have any more access to threat reduction I'm doubling down on Risk Some Light with Needful to Know, and of course the various ways of playing Gandalf, which will now include Elf-stone.

Always lovely to hear everyone's thoughts :) This deck is currently struggling with Watcher in the Water :(
