An attempt at making a usable hobbit campaign deck with only the repackaged material (and Bond of Friendship, but ignoring that) Feedback is welcome

  • Bond of Friendship hobbits are definitely a strong deck type!
  • East Road Ranger doesn't seem worth the resources and deck space without any player sidequests (to my limited knowledge the Saga doesn't have any encounter sidequests either). Consider adding some - Double Back and Gather Information would fit this deck particularly well - or replacing Ranger with always-good cards like Ranger Spikes or Daeron's Runes.
  • Athelas has only the 2x E. R. Ranger as valid targets in this deck (plus Aragorn in some parts of the saga). It will be VERY hard to get into play without Aragorn as a target - turn 4 at the earliest. If condition management is desired, consider using Miner of the Iron Hills or even Elrond.
  • Similar case with Hobbit Pipe and Smoke Rings - with only 2 out of 50 cards to trigger them, the Pipes just won't draw enough cards to replace themselves, let alone give you net card advantage. It would be possible to replace some other Spirit cards (Hobbit Pony?) with The Galadhrim's Greeting to double the number of possible triggers, but I would just replace both Pipe and Smoke Rings with any of the glut of good cards for this deck - Ancient Mathom for more reliable card draw, Double Back for more powerful threat reduction, or the ever-useful Hasty Stroke.
  • I get the appeal of Sword-thain, but it's yet another card with only one workable target: 2x Farmer Maggot. Until you can draw him and muster up the 3 to pay for him plus 4 additional resources for Sword-thain itself, it's a dead card. I also get that there aren't a lot of suitable Neutral cards for this deck in the revised cardpool, but 1x each of Gather Information and Magic Ring would probably be preferable here.
  • Finally, Citadel Plate and Grim Resolve at least don't require card combos to be useful, but they are still very expensive for a Bond of Friendship deck, and thus very slow to make use of. For , Honour Guard or Defender of Rammas would aid in mounting a defense much more quickly, while for Cram is a readying option available Round 1 and Ranger Provisions offers 5 (!) resources to a BoF deck playing the Saga.
