This is part of my "cycle progression" playthrough, where I get access to all of the cards from a cycle at once, in addition to the prior cycles. For the Against the Shadows (AtS) cycle, that includes the core (Core), Shadows of Mirkwood (SoM), Khazad-dum (KD), and The Hobbit (TH).

Having heard this was an easier quest, I thought I'd try out a mono trap deck. I didn't try anything particularly novel here, but it seemed to work out alright.

Denethor with A Burning Brand was my defender, and he could take pretty much anything the encounter deck could throw at him other than a Craven Eagle. If he was held back and there was no enemy to defend, then scry away.

Faramir and Mirlonde ended up questing the whole time, you could probably swap Faramir for any other lore hero and see no impact.

With low starting threat, Gandalf can do some work. You can try and keep your threat down with the A Good Harvest and The Galadhrim's Greeting combo.

Trapping Ghulat is key, you're gonna have a bad time if you let him stake damage tokens on dead villagers. If you trap him in the staging area with Ranger Spikes, then you can wear him down with Forest Patrol or Ranger Bow.

Potential deck changes that might make it a bit better would be more card draw to find A Good Harvest faster for The Galadhrim's Greeting, Steward of Gondor, and traps. I thought Daeron's Runes and Mithrandir's Advice would be enough but you could run more. Ithilien Pit is probably not worth it as your threat can creep pretty high with Gandalf.
