Main goal of this deck is to give all enemies + 7-13 engagement cost for the entire game. Pippin starts with a +4 since all of your heroes are hobbits and can eventually get to +5 once you Sword-thain one of your allies.
Grip, Fang, Wolf add an additional +3 and the best part about them is you can play all of them on turn 2. So the strategy is to mulligan to get one of the dogs so you can find the rest and get them into play on turn 2 with a free Bill the Pony.
Now we are at +7-8 for all enemies which brings us to the last piece in Young Tom. He adds +5 to all enemies for the entire round bringing us to +12-13 engagement cost total! Lily Cotton comes in huge in allowing us to bounce Young Tom each turn to make the +5 constant.
Not only are you making it so you can choose which engagements you want but you get to make some interesting decisions because you can send the allies questing or hold some back for attack. Sam Gamgee, Pippin and Dagger of Westernesse all benefit from the +13 engagement cost getting you free readies, card draw, and more damage!
You can use Without My Hat to get a steward if no one is playing it or Magic Ring since threat isn't a huge deal with Merry and The Shirefolk.
Tom Cotton provides a sturdy defender especially with DĂșnedain Warning and then resource smoothing if you keep an enemy engaged.
This was designed as part of a 4p fellowship to kill things in the staging area but worked great as standalone for any pickup game.
Enjoy choosing who you want to engage and when!
