A Dale deck featuring hero Gandalf.

I'm having a lot of fun with the Dale archetype and have been experimenting with a few different heroes to go along with Brand son of Bain and Bard son of Brand; Beregond and Galadriel in particular have been very effective. Then, inspired by the Fellowship 2018 playmat, I decided to take a standard Dale deck and shoehorn in Gandalf and his suite of attachments. The result may not be the most powerful Dale variant ever but it's sure been fun to play.

The deck plays mostly the same as any other Dale deck. Get out King of Dale ASAP, use it to play discounted allies, play attachments on those allies for stat boosts and to draw more cards. Gandalf rounds out the deck pretty nicely. He is a solid defender for the first few turns while you are setting up your board. Later he can use Narya to get extra uses out of your stronger allies, swing for 5 with Glamdring, or just quest (or take multiple actions with Shadowfax). His ability (along with his Pipe) provides an alternative way to pay for your allies in case you can't find King of Dale. Imladris Stargazer helps you dig for King or optimal ally/attachment pairs, and sets up Gandalf's ability. He does make the starting threat a little high, so The Galadhrim's Greeting is there to help out.

This deck may struggle in solo against scenarios with a lot of low engagement cost enemies, but has performed fine in multiplayer. Between Shadowfax and the Warrior allies, you have plenty of ranged and sentinel. Gandalf's Staff and Narya can help out other players.

If you're Gandalf Guy and your playgroup has gotten used to your 10-minute turns, this deck should take it to a new level. Enjoy!
