Playing mono Lore (green book cards) reminds me of when I passed my kidney stone in '86. You're backed up with a lot of cards but you don't have a proper outlet (resources) to play them. This deck takes care of that in a fun way.

To play Lore you have to realize the strengths and weaknesses of this color.

Strengths-

  1. Card Draw
  2. Healing Magic
  3. Card removal (hard to explain)
  4. Traps
  5. "Forest" feeling

Weaknesses-

  1. Questing
  2. Attacking
  3. Defending
  4. You have to be "smart" to play
  5. No Boromir-like hero

This is my first deck ( I used the core tactics deck for the last year) so please give me feedback ( and likes)(likes are more important). Lore is all about magic spells, just like Tolkien wrote about in the movies. Remember when Galdalf got big and talked about Cheap Trick in Frodos house? That would be a Lore Card. Someone told me there are different wizard colors in Middle-Earth. White, Grey, Brown and Green. I imagine White would have cure spells like in Final Fantasy.

I have tested this deck a lot. It's solid against Passage through Mirkwood. But if you think you can take this deck into advanced Difficulty 4+ quests you need to pump the brakes. Did you see Damrod putting down poison traps on the Balrog bridge in the movie? No. Now, I haven't seen the LOTR sequels (the Hobbit) so maybe Rangers get tough but I'm not counting on it.

So, the point of this deck is to use Damrod, Gríma, and Master of Lore to reduce card costs so you can play some mean ents and allies early. I read in the forums that you can stack Damrod/Grima/MoL's reduction abilities but you have to do it in the right order. Say it aloud in multiplayer so your teammates can follow along. I say it out loud during solo play, but this is optional. I don't use Octogon (but I love the Chuck Norris movie) so you might need to type out your thought process.

Using Gríma and Gandalf causes your threat to go up quickly. That is what Aragorn is for. Don't make the mistake I did last night in Journey to Rholgumball and use his ability when you have 37 threat. Wait until you are almost at 50.

You might ask about the Poisoned Stakes.Yeah, Ambush is better. But to use Ambush you have to save allies to attack and they are most likely questing. Poison lets you "set it and forget it". Plus, poison is cool. My wife's favorite movie is the Princess Bride and there is a funny poison scene.

Well, there you have it, my first deck. I love the game but it is really expensive. I had to stop using Redbox for a while to get some packs. I also realized I had to buy multiple core sets to get copies of the good cards (A Test of Will and Beorn's Hospitality). The game is worth it though.

If this deck is well received I will post my next deck I'm working on. I'll give a hint- but it's a "SECRET" (think about it and you'll figure it out).
