Darkling Door 6121

This is a thematic deck built for an ongoing series on my blog, Darkling Door.

Theme: Imladris & its keepers

Played Against: Nightmare Deadmen's Dike

"And here in Rivendell there live still some of his chief foes: the Elven-wise, lords of the Eldar from beyond the furthest seas… Indeed there is a power in Rivendell to withstand the might of Mordor, for a while."

Gandalf, Many Meetings, The Fellowship of the Ring

Strategy

The Fellowship Contract puts a slight twist on the standard Elrond / Vilya ringbearer deck.

Mulligan for: Vilya. Until you find it, the deck can only tread water.

Tips

  • Gandalf's ability to show the top card of your deck means that you will always know if it's worth it to exhaust Elrond and Vilya.
  • Use Wizard Pipe to help you get the most out of Vilya. Prioritize getting out expensive Allies.
  • Bilbo Baggins makes a great early-game play to fetch a Wizard Pipe, and because he's not to expensive to afford.
  • Don't forget that Elrond can pay for Allies from any sphere! This can often help you pay for Allies from hand.
  • Also don't forget that Galadriel allows Allies to quest for free on the round they enter play! This can be great action advantage to help you pull ahead of the encounter deck.
  • Gildor Inglorion makes a great defender, especially with help from Arwen Undómiel's ability.
  • Don't be afraid to use Galadriel's ability to draw cards if you don't like what's on top of your deck.

Sideboard

Will of the West was vital for helping me defeat Nightmare Deadmen's Dike. Against other quests I would switch it out for Word of Command instead.
