I've never played Outlands properly before. Many years ago, the first Grey Company episode stated that "Friends don't let friends play Outlands." For whatever reason, the archetype never particularly excited me, and given how often I don't manage to play, I've never bothered trying it out. Until now.
This is a fairly standard amalgamation of other Outlands decks that I used for 'Passage Through the Marshes'. I've added a few things in - Armored Destrier and Magic Ring to help out with defending. Once powered up, Hirluin the Fair took care of that.
The deck starts fast. Denethor is loaded with extra resources. Erestor farms cards like there's no tomorrow. Errand-rider and Envoy of Pelargir help you get the resources squarely onto Hirluin the Fair where they belong. As soon as Ethir Swordsman hits the table, questing is sorted. By round three, the deck is chewing through everything in its path.
This deck is a monstrous, terrifying, juggernaut.
It's not fun.
I completely understand why friends don't let friends play Outlands. "Objection - Math" comes to mind (shout out to the Law Offices of Brian and Sean). The constant recalculating of everything is wearing. Even in a deck with a bit of resource juggling to do, there's nothing that happens that feels particularly clever. It's not like Silvans or Noldor where the shenanigans are endless. It's not like a Hero G deck where the ally choices can be clutch. Weirdly, it doesn't even feel as good as playing a Dwarf Swarm deck.
It got me through the quest, but I'm not planning on playing it again.
