This deck is made using only the Mirkwood cycle and the Hobbit Saga's. The win condition is Dáin Ironfoot and a board full of dwarves. The rest of the deck attempts to offer support in the form of threat reduction and shadow card control, lead by Balin and Nori. Nori is the most fun toy in the deck and we can cheat out dwarves quickly, and bounces dwarves in and out of play. If the scenario comes out fast, we can mulligan for Sneak Attack and either Kili or Fili. This gives one threat reduction, one turn of whichever part of the duo snuck in, and leaves in the play in other part of the duo, all for one resource. Other Sneak Attack targets are Gandalf, Glóin, and Longbeard Orc Slayer. Balin's ability combined with A Test of Will give us a lot of avoidance over the bad shadow cards.

Finally, one of the best cards in the deck is King Under the Mountain. This card offers 1) card draw 2) deck cycling and 3) discard material without exhausting a hero. Add in Valiant Sacrifice to make Kili and Fili chump blocking feel better and this deck draws a bunch of cards. After a few plays I added Will of the West because long games can see your deck run out, and also this deck can really hurt if you run out of Fili before Kili, or vice versa.

Once the deck establishes, a giant board of dwarves plus Dáin Ironfoot is usually enough to win most scenarios.

Sneak attacking in Fili will not bring in Kili as he will not be played from your hand. Likewise, Nori will not lower your threat either.

I'm new, so there may be something I am missing, but Sneak Attack says it puts an ally "into play from hand" and Kili/Fili say when "played from hand". I didn't sese any definitions in the rulebooks that would explained a difference in the nuance of these phrases.

The difference unfortunately exists, although you are correct when saying the distinction is not clear. It is one of the more tricky rules to learn.

Here is the PDF of FAQs and rules explanations, section 1.16 refers to "Put into Play". images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com

You will find this affects many cards, such as your Gloin as well, so you can't get a free resource by Sneak Attack-ing him in either. Longbeard Orc Slayer does still work, however, since it says "enters play".

I really appreciate the explanation. This is frustratingly worded, and obviously a bummer that I could have memorized the all of the materials that come with everything I've purchased and not been able to glean this, but putting pride aside my pride I'm glad I know this moving forward for playing around with decks. Cheers!

the wording is sometimes not very selfexplaining. the next really big think where a beginner and sometimes even the old dogs are not completely aware of everytime is the different way card leave play. there are different words with different meanings, a player card can leave play by:

  • discard
  • destroyed
  • take back to hand
  • shuffle in your deck
  • remove from play

(did i forget something?)
