Concept

I was in the discord general channel and was discussing heroes with some newer players...and I revealed that I hadn't played a Core Set hero outside of [Beravor](/card/01012) in a very long time, so I wanted to return to a classic lineup of [Aragorn](/card/01001), [Théodred](/card/01002), and [Éowyn](/card/01007)...but with a full card pool at my disposal. After a few drafts and discussion in the discord deckbuilding channel, this is what I came up with.

Deckbuilding

I knew this deck was going to be pretty weak on total strength, so I absolutely had to put in a couple cheap attackers, and it's lucky there's been so much sphere bleed in recent years, as you're no longer restricted to efficient attackers in anymore. Enter [Knight of Belfalas](/card/22034) and [Greenwood Archer](/card/16003). [Treebeard](/card/08146) also helps us a bit with this.

Aragorn is your primary defender, with supplemental chumps in the form of [Envoy of Pelargir](/card/05018), but he should be more than serviceable with a built-in ready, [Inner Strength](/card/22009), [Ancestral Armor](/card/19028), and [Shining Shield](/card/22138). Careful, though, as there's no healing in the deck as currently constructed.

You should never be lacking for raw , and there are a LOT of ways to boost it in this deck as well, so your stats should be pretty well covered.

Card draw is solved with [Ancient Mathom](/card/02056) and [Elven-light](/card/10145).

Gameplay

I generally like to make Aragorn the [Steward of Gondor](/card/01026) (if I see it early) to fuel his resource-hungry ability and use Theodred to help give Eowyn some extra blue resources to play [A Test of Will](/card/01050) or churn out cheap questers. It also makes sense to put Steward on Aragorn if you see [Celebrían's Stone](/card/01027) as well. That's really the primary decision in this deck, other than when to use the tired but nevertheless effective [Sneak Attack](/card/01023)-[Gandalf](/card/01073) combo. Other than that, you just slap bodies on the table, turn cards sideways, and watch stats pile up. It's not a particularly exciting deck, but it works. If you want to spice it up, I suppose you could lean into [Stand and Fight](/card/01051) with Eowyn's discard ability, but I find that to be relatively cumbersome in terms of card slots and resources needed. If you haven't revisited these heroes in a long time, I suggest taking an iteration of a deck like this for a spin. I'd be fascinated to see what others come up with as well.

What is your ideal restricted attachment line up for Aragorn since you have multiple that seem to be intended for him?

@ahez20 it'll be The One Ring along with one of the boosting attachments: Ancestral Armor or Shining Shield. Celebrían's Stone is a nice-to-have card but not entirely necessary because, other than The Galadhrim's Greeting, the cards are all pretty cheap.

I gotcha. Do you end up with excess resources on Aragorn? One thing I have done in the past is include Blood of Númenor to my Aragorn decks to make sure you have enough defense when you really need it. Also, if you don’t plan to put Armored Destrier on Aragorn then that could be a good card to drop.
