D4rkWolf10 505

D4rkWolf10 has a newer deck inspired by this one: Controlled Discard

This deck has been probably my most fun project to fine tune and develop since I got into the game. I have @Authraw and @WingfootRanger to thank in particular for their invaluable feedback. I am fairly certain that the deck is in its final form beyond personal preferences, but if you feel there's something I missed, please tell me so I can give it a try.

The aim of the deck is pretty simple: use Vilya and To the Sea, to the Sea! discard your deck as quickly as possible to put super strong (and normally expensive) allies into play quickly and cheaply (sometimes free!). Your board state ramps up very quickly once you have some heavy hitters in play, and if you somehow cycle through your whole deck, Will of the West brings it all back for another round.

I have found the deck functions fine on its own and also as more of a support quest deck if you'd like to take it into multiplayer with some friends. I think that does it for me is that not only is the deck thematic, but also very powerful. It's a pretty cool rush to drop such strong allies into play so early on in the game.

If you build the deck and play it, please take the time to let me know how it goes for you! Good luck!

I like this deck, but I am curious about Galadriel's inclusion. Since you will never be able to play her from your hand (only "put her into play" with Vilya), you will never be able to trigger her response. In that case, she seems like kind of a waste for an ally that leaves play at the end of the round.

@BeornElrond can pay for Galadriel.

How positively delightful! Why did I forget that Galadriel was Noldor too?

@Beorn I included Galadriel since she can find either of the necessary attachments for the deck more quickly, although I will say it is definitely easier for her to fetch Vilya than it is for her to fetch To the Sea, to the Sea! given you'd either need to pay her full cost via Elrond, hope to flip her blindly with Vilya for free, or set her up knowingly via Imladris Stargazer. If To the Sea, to the Sea! is in play, you can play her for one resource off of Elrond provided you have enough cards to discard.

@Beorn I am rereading your comment and I did not note the text prior indicating her effect can only trigger if played from hand, which would indeed render her only able to be played via Elrond's resource pool, either at full or reduced price. That being the case, I can see why she could be considered a less than optimal choice. Do you have an alternative suggestion?

@Seastan makes a good point about paying full price from Elrond, but it does seem like an expensive option - especially because you can't To the Sea, to the Sea! to help pay for Galadriel if that is what you want her to go fetch. You have Master of the Forge and Imladris Stargazer, not to mention Vilya to avoid paying costs. Do you find that you actually need Galadriel to get your key attachments in play?

With two copies, she might not do much anything if you draw her later and you already have your Vilya and To the Sea, to the Sea in play. I suppose that she lets you stack your deck, but you have plenty of card draw and Imladris Stargazer already does that. I suppose the 3 willpower is nice too, but she seems like the one awkward fit in this deck. Personally I would probably just replace her with either Sailor of Lune (for treachery-heavy quests), Harbor Master for more attack, or Elven Jeweler (as another cheap body).

In any case, I really like the overall design. In particular, I feel like Galdor of the Havens is an excellent choice for decks with a critical need for certain cards in the opening hand. Once you get Vilya and To the Sea, to the Sea! in play, this deck runs like a charm.

@Beorn I appreciate and thank you for the kind words. You make some very good points and I think I will give the deck a try with a replacement ally (probably one of the 3 above you mentioned) and see how it runs. Thank you for all the feedback!

@D4rkWolf10If you do decide to replace Galadriel, I would second Sailor of Lune since it seems that you have plenty of events in the deck to give him a good chance of his ability kicking in.

@Beorn Why can't I use To the Sea, To the Sea! to pay for Galadriel?

May 07, 2017 Benedikt 249

Ahhh it's because it's not legal to combine Elronds ability and 'To the Sea, To the Sea!'? Thought the whole morning about that..

May 07, 2017 D4rkWolf10 505

@Benedikt it is not illegal from a rules standpoint to use To the Sea, to the Sea! to pay for Galadriel. @Beornwas pointing out that the attachment can't be utilized to pay for her if that's what you're wanting her to find for you, and since her ability only triggers if played from your hand, you can't play her for free with a Vilya activation. Therefore, your only way to play her is by paying full price with Elrond, which can get expensive in a deck with no resource generation beyond Arwen Undómiel. Hope that helps you! The most recent version of this deck is linked above if you'd like to view it. Let me know if I can help more!
