This deck is all about strong defense, big attacks, and a steady flow of allies. With Beregond holding the line, Éomer leading the charge, and Lothíriel supporting the team, we will be ready to take on even the toughest enemies.

If you want a reliable combat-focused deck, this lineup is built to keep you safe and hit back hard.

Heroes

Beregond

Éomer

Lothíriel

Mulligan & Setup

Mulligan for Windfola or Red Arrow if we need to quest hard, or Gondorian Shield if we expect tough enemies. It’s even better if we also find Firefoot.

If we can’t find Beregond’s key attachments, Defenders of Rammas are our backup.

Strategy & Card Interactions

Ally Cycling & Chump Blocking:
Envoy of Pelargir and Horse-breeder are perfect for Lothíriel’s response, and can also chump-block to boost Éomer’s attack.

Most allies in this deck are easy to get into play right away. The only ones that usually can’t be played the same round they’re drawn are Road Travellers, Westfold Lancers, and Gandalf.

Questing & Combat:
Westfold Lancers are mainly for questing, but their response can be a game-changer in combat, especially for Éomer.
Extra War Axes go to Westfold Outriders.

Gandalf’s Purpose:
Gandalf is our only source of threat reduction, making his threat-lowering response the most valuable for this deck.

Since we have plenty of combat power and several options for card draw (like Horse-breeder, Ancient Mathom, Horn of the Mark, and Foe-hammer) Gandalf’s other responses are less critical here.

Against the Shadows:
Since we’re so defense-focused from the early game, we’re exposed to nasty shadow effects.
A couple of Hasty Strokes can save our defensive line from disaster. Try to keep one of these in hand whenever possible.

Willpower vs. Valour:
I find The Red Arrow’s boost much more valuable than its valour response. Only trigger the response if you’re confident that Gandalf or a Westfold Lancer can be brought in as targets.

Sideboard

  • Éomund: Great for questing and chump-blocking, since he triggers lots of Rohan responses when he leaves play.
    • However, he’s a bit expensive for this deck’s resource curve.
  • Wait no Longer: This card is powerful once our combat engine is running, letting us avoid questing and save A Test of Will for another turn.
    • If we’re not too worried about shadow effects, consider swapping out Hasty Stroke for it.

In summary: This deck is built to smash Nazgûl and shine in combat-heavy quests. Mulligan for key mounts and shields, let Lothíriel keep the Rohan engine running, and watch Beregond and Éomer defend the line and bring down the enemy.

I think you'd really struggle to get Foe-hammer to work reliably with only 3 weapons and with Lothiriel, you'll definitely run out of cards in hand more quickly so Ancient Mathom might work better. Personally I would up Horn of the Mark to 3x as well. Gamling should absolutely be in this list as well as you'll run out of allies pretty quickly. Honestly it might even be worth swapping Beregond out for someone like Leadership Imrahil or Elfhelm if you want to go down the mounts route more. Then you can bring in Armoured Destrier, Guthwine, Also maybe consider looking at Herugrim and Golden Shield when they come out in RCO.

Hey, thanks for your suggestions. You're right about running out of cards and including the Mathoms to prevent it. Will review that and make some space for them.

I like the idea of the Gondor/Rohan alliance and being able to face Nazgul from round 1, that's why I thought of Beregond rather than some other hero. :)

I wrote a different answer, but then I just figured out that I already have the Mathoms in the deck. XD Anyway, you're right, sometimes cards in hand are not enough.

Mustering the Rohirrim would be a great way to thin out this deck, but it is not RCO. Gamling + Horn of the Mark maybe would be worth as a card draw engine each turn, Will think about it.
