I adore Trap decks, typically find myself playing it Mono-Lore so wanted to bring Amarthiul into the mix to lean into Dunedain Ranger theme and to unlock Tactics & Leadership fun and games, the blend of contracts actually work great... here is V1.0
Overview / Strategy: Accelerate Card Draw + Engagement Shenanigans
- The Riddle-game to give you Stone of Elostirion on setup to give you +1 card draw each round and needed willpower boost. This also gives you Hungry Creature engaged Round 1 so Amarthiúl gets immediately
- A Perilous Voyage to allow you +1 card draw each round to help with Riddles and general acceleration
- Thurindir searches for Gather Information, quite possible to clear first round and search for Forest Snare, use Damrod to get discount and by Round 2 you can have 2x engaged nulled enemies (Hungry + 1 other) so Amarthiul gets extra resource effect + steward to fuel Gondorian Fire
- Damrod churns out traps and you get even more card draw when they attach, then there is plenty of other card draw in there too
Forest Snare & Engagement
- Its the anchor of the strategy, if dont get one in opening hand which is likely not given 100 cards, find it with Gather Information
- Attach it in Round 2 or 3 to the highest enemy available. This means you will have a couple of rounds at least with 2 engaged enemies but not being attacked by either, so can ramp up with engagement boosts eg Heir of Valandil, Emyn Arnen Ranger and Guardian of Arnor for example
- Get another Forest Snare online to replace the Hungry Creature which will disappear after the Riddles Game has been won. Ensure you use the 2nd/3rd Forest Snare with the highest possible enemy that has a Followed attached to it, then you are getting massive boost from Followed / Emyn Arnen Ranger from a nullified enemy.
Amarthiúl with Gondorian Fire can do alot of work for us in combat then flanked by his dunedain and ranger allies such as Vigilant Dúnadan, Guardian of Arnor. Also with the A Perilous Voyage flip you can search for whatever you need at that point, perhaps Faramir for questing, Anborn for trap recyling, Andúril for Amarthiul combat etc.
Given its 100 cards with Perilous it means alot of cards that perhaps don't get to see as much time out of the binders do. Believe can this can be improved swapping in Alep Aragorn with Estel & Elesser etc but wanted to build a version without those power cards and see how it fared.
