The BGamerJoe 5119
This deck is a variation on everyone's favotire Mono Tactics deck. This version is designed to go up against Nightmare Encounter at Amon Din.
Encounter at Amon Din is a pushover in standard mode but the nightmare version is a whole different game! You basically want to rush through the quest as fast as possible because nearly every encounter card is terrible! This version of the deck is heavy on lows cost allies and ways to keep enemies from attacking. One of the ways this quests gets you is shadow effects chaining off each other so defending with heroes is dangerous.
Tips and Tricks
This plays like a Hirgon deck but there's a couple weird cards so I'll go over a few. The Knight of Minas Tirith is perfect for taking out the Orc Rabble. Using Hirgon's second ability to boost him to 4 you can take out the Rabble before he attacks, chains shadow effects and makes your life miserable. The Beorning Guardian isn't great but he can clear the Secluded Farmhouse if you need some location control. The Soldier of Dol Amroth is just a chump that lets you get more cheap allies out faster. You can play him and a Vassal of the Windlord or Knights of the Swan in the planning phase and still drop a 2 cost ally in the quest phase!
Grimbold, The Wizards's Voice and Feint are all good ways of stopping attacks. It's especially good to stop Ghulat and the Marauding Orc since they usually kill a villager. Oath of Eorl can do the same thing, but I found it a little expensive in a game that only lasts 3-5 turns so I put it back in the sideboard.
Last Stand is a card I have never used before but since you're certain to chump block a few times and 25 allies have the Warrior trait, I've actually got some good value out of it in this quest.
It' fairly obvious but Eowyn's +9 is perfect for taking out Ghulat once you have the chance!
Summary
The quest is insane but this deck can occasionally beat it in a solo play and I've had a couple successful 2-player games across from an Outlands Deck (not cheating for this quest!). You can find a video that has a standard and nightmare game here. Check out that nightmare ending!
