My shot at a Dale deck and it is taking me through the most current set of quests well. In this iteration, I am using Galadriel as my third hero for the card draw and access to the Mirror of Galadriel. Silver harp is the second part of the combo to retain cards in your hand.
Usually, you will mulligan for King of Dale, unless you get a mirror and a harp.
I will put the King of Dale and Silver Harp on Bard, to get at least two attachments on him. Mirror and Nenya, if you get it, will go on Galadriel. After that, as long as there is a third attachment on Bard and one enchantment on Brand, you should be good to go. If the Necklace of Girion gets out, Bard should be the the hero to wear it. I will tend to start with Brand as an attacker, but will shift him to a quester as the game progresses. Lastly, Protector of Lorien can go on either Brand or Bard depending on attachment distribution.
For the allies, the first thought should be to just get the attachments out to draw cards. Once you can get Long Lake Traders out you can start to distribute and optimize item placement.
Hauberk goes on Redwater Sentry
Map of Rhovanion goes on Rhovanion Outrider
Bow of Yew goes on Warrior of Dale
Spare hood and Cloak tend to start on North Realm Lookout
Rainment of War tends to be quest dependent. If defense is needed, place on Redwater Sentry. If more attacking is needed, Warrrior of Dale or even Brand.
Core set Gandalf and sneak attack found a place here as well. The choice of threat reduction, card draw or direct damage is always nice to have. When the deck gets going, Traffic from Dale should net enough resources to be able to play at full cost without too much of a tempo hit. Remember, Galadriel lets him quest without exhausting when he first comes into play.
Also, Gandalf combos well with Spare Hood and Cloak. By holding back your characters who have these attachments and then giving them to Gandalf, he can be defending against multiple attacks or attacking multiple times. When it is time for him to leave play, the Spare hood and cloaks go right back into your hand based on Bard’s ability, play them again, and hopefully draw more cards with Brand’s ability.
By the of the game, I have usually drawn the majority of my deck.
Let me know what you think!

Jul 17, 2018Raiment of War doesn't actually boost the effective damage for a Warrior of Dale more than a cheap Bow of Yew will, and since the Raiment takes both restricted slots they can't be combined. Since Hauberk of Mail isn't restricted, both can go on Redwater Sentry to provide a 5 6 defender. I love to put Spare Hood and Cloak on North Realm Lookout, they can quest for three and still be ready to use the Hood on someone else. Then Long Lake Trader can move it back, causing a card draw to trigger. |
Jul 17, 2018I don’t think the Long Lake Trader moving the Cloak will trigger a card draw. Is believe Brand’s wording is “after you play an attachment on a Dale character without an attachment” and I don’t think sliding it with the Trader would trigger that draw. |
Jul 18, 2018To dalestephenson correct, rainment of war is about the same as a bow of yew in terms of damage. However, if you put the rainment on the warrior, the bow of yew would go on another character, say the North Realm tracker for additional damage. I agree that the sentry is generally the best place, but you usually don’t need to have two totally beefed up allies for defense, especially considering sneak attack Gandalf and the spare hood and cloak. That has been my experience anyways. It probably comes down to preference. I also agree with BGamerJoe in that sliding the hood and cloak with the trader to a Dale character without an attachment does not trigger a card draw. |
Jul 18, 2018Dang it, you're right. It also looks like another player giving your character an attachment doesn't trigger it either. Long Lake Trader is still great for creating empty characters to target, though. Despite its discarding, it makes me wonder if Born Aloft might not work well in a Dale deck. When there's no ally to play you can get one back, with his attachment(s), then put him back down and draw a card, removing any damage in the process; handy for a Sentry with nothing but Hauberek. Probably not worth the deck space, though. I do love great defense, so I'll always want at least one Sentry with Hauberek + Rainment. |
Looks very solid!
