"For it reminded me of the great days of the ancient war, so many fair princes and captains were there, yet not so many or so fair as once had been.'
-Elrond, Herald of Gil-Galad
This deck seeks to capture Elrond as we was an the Herald to the last king of the Noldor, Gil-Galad. Elrond typical is played with his ring Vilya. Which is very powerful, but he also has two other great abilities and an amazing stat line only beat by Gandalf.
The approach is my attempt at the Noldor archetype.
Always mulligan for To the Sea, to the Sea! and hopefully Elrohir. Any of the other unique allies are good to see too. Magic Ring is for Elrond, his ability to pay for off-sphere allies is crucial to this deck. You want to save Glorfindel's resources for recurring Elven-light. Proud Hunters in the side board I would exchange for Foe-hammer if you feel resources are tight or would have it over card drawn. It takes less setup too.
The deck is intended for solo play, but with some sideboard swaps it can be an off hand combat or questing deck. Most of the allies have 2 or more HPs, giving some safety from damaging treacheries that rend to harass a typical questing body. Even the base deck can quest for 12+ early on. Once Elrohir is out, his brother becomes a 3 hero that can be bolstered by Rivendell Blade and Elven Spear alongside Glorfindel. Light of Valinor is not only for Glorfindel. Let the board state decide who gets it. I play it most often on Elrond myself to take advantage of his defense.
The original deck used Aragorn, but there wasn't much synergy besides his defense reducing ability. With Elladanit puts under 30, adds targets for the Noldor specific attachments, and with his brother out has near identical stats for 2 less . I always liked the twins, but two hero slots threw a wrench in things for me. I have yet to go a game without drawing into ally Elrohir early.
Elven Spear is limited to 3 times a phase, any phase. Use to to pitch Elven light if need be. It's not an effective use of spending Elladan's resources, they tend to pile up. SonI included the costly Veteran Sword-elf. I like that card here because you can determine how you want to stat boost to go. One Sword Elf in play, two in the discard is almost another hero. 2 In play, 1 in discard gives you more attack and defense options.
Give the deck a run, I'm always up suggestions. I've been testing it myself still. I don't have a lot of time for the game though. Let me know how it treats you.
