Friends don't let friends play Outlands and never use Gríma in multiplayer, but what if you did? Doomed decks work well enough in solo, but are troublesome in multiplayer games since not all players might have decks that are prepared for major spikes in threat. But D4rkWolf10 and I have built this fellowship with the Doomed mechanic in mind, and the results were enjoyable. Based on the years Aragorn spent abroad fighting for Rohan and Gondor, our fellowship is a thematic exploration of that time while still being a playable team of considerable power.
D4rkWolf's Erkenbrand/Gríma/Éomer deck handles the combat primarily while questing a bit on the side. It is the main source of the Doomed cards such as Deep Knowledge and Legacy of Númenor which it can use to give both decks an explosive start. Aside from that, the standard plan of action is to use Éomer in conjunction with Firefoot and the combat allies to smash enemies, and so there are some allies that can leave play one way or another included in the deck, including Eryn Galen Settler and Westfold Outrider. Erkenbrand defends for both decks much of the time, and can cancel the worst shadow effects as needed.
My Aragorn/Théoden/Legolas deck is the main questing force, but it can also ramp up to the point of being able to handle combat just as well as the other deck thanks to the tempo acceleration from the other deck's Doomed cards. It is possible for all 3 heroes to be readied after questing due to effects of Snowmane, Light of Valinor, and Legolas's ability, and that is where it tends to get most of its combat strength. It also carries some cards to assist its combat partner, the use of Desperate Defense and Lembas boost the defensive capabilities of Erkenbrand when necessary. Another important role of this deck is providing threat control to counteract the risk of threating out. Aragorn's refresh action will save this deck from threating out from Doom spam, and it can us Desperate Alliance to share Aragorn with the combat deck so that it can also reset its threat back from the edge.
This fellowship was play-tested against The Treachery of Rhudaur, which should indicate that it could handle quite a few other quests as well. It can get fast starts, reset its threat, and maintain the strong tempo until the encounter deck's resistance is overpowered. It was fun to build this fellowship according to the theme of Rohan and Isengard as they were decades before the War of the Ring, and I hope you enjoy it as well.
