AtS1: Peril In Pelargir, 2-handed solo, progression

Description

This scenario is pretty tough, especially in the first couple of rounds. It's fantastically thematic though, having to desperately bust your way out of the The Leaping Fish against brigands and thugs and then push onto the boats carrying your scroll. Each time I've won with this deck has involved struggling to get out of the Leaping Fish and the streets and then really pushing the questing in stage 3 to escape onto the boats. Very satifying. Really thematic.

I also feel like I'm making full use of most of the new cards in Heirs of Numenor. Not only that, but some cards from the core set that I hadn't even thought of using are now relevant again (e.g. For Gondor!, Guard of the Citadel).

Fantastic. Feels like a real step up in terms of quality of scenario after Khazad Dum and Over Hill and Under Hill.

In terms of the scenario itself, some tactics I've used:

  • putting scroll initially onto Boromir with the intention of getting him damaged by a thug asap to remove the scroll (Leaping Fish active location forced ability is brutal). Only attach scroll in stage 2.

  • making strategic use of Spear of the Citadel and Gondorian Spearman to remove enemies before their shadow cards are even revealed.

  • get Light of Valinor and buff Glorfindel's attack asap so he can quest and hit for as much as possible. Also, get a Rivendell Blade on him to give him ranged.
