How low can you go?
How low can you go?

I had an idea to build a 3-hero deck with the lowest starting threat possible. There are 3 ways you could do it, Mirlonde with Folco Boffin and Pippin, or swap Mirlonde for Merry or Glorfindel. I decided on the latter because I wanted access to Asfaloth and more .

This deck uses its low threat as an advantage. Super low threat allows you to avoid many enemy engagements which in turn allows you to set up your board.

Opening Hand

The best combo to see is Elf-stone and a high cost ally. Hopefully at least one secrecy card. Some card draw is always a welcome sight as well.

Game play

On your first turn you hopefully can play a secrecy ally or Henamarth Riversong and therefore know what you will be questing against, making for an easy round 1. Travel to a location as soon as possible and get elf-stone on it. With all the card draw you will get Resourceful(s) on a hero to help put allies in play. Quickly you will have a board full of powerful allies and most likely all the enemies are still in staging. Engage them one at a time and take them out as you easily quest over the others.
With plenty of threat reduction you will stay in secrecy for most of the game. If you ever need to, Folco is a panic button and Prince Imrahil will take his place. A good trick is to put all encounter deck condition attachments on Folco. Gandalf can stick around the whole game.

If you reveal a treachery that makes you raise your threat it is almost like it whiffs because your threat is so low.

Overall I found this to be a very fun deck to play. I always had big allies in play early on and rarely had issues during combat or questing.

@doomguard oh yeah! good catch.

Especially since Folco/Merry/Pippin gives you access to the new event from Mount Gundabad, The Shirefolk, to reduce your threat even more.

@Alonewolf87 that is true, but I think the lack of attack power Glorfindel provides would be sorely missed. If you swapped out for Merry you also lose Elrond's Council (which is comparable to The Shirefolk) and Asfaloth. I think if you did go the all hobbit route this deck would still work well in multi-player but would struggle in solo.

That's probably right, I think I might be biased againts Glorfindel right now...

without glorfindel i would integrate treebeard (ally) into the deck. with that much carddraw it should be save to get him. the spirit-merry can compensate for elronds counsel, specially with pony or fast hitch.
